Education
of
Acupuncturists
Acupuncture
training
in
the
United
States
is
done
at
accredited
colleges
that
instruct
you
in
acupuncture,
Chinese
herbology,
nutrition,
massage,
counseling,
physiology
and
anatomy,
pathology
from
a
western
medical
perspective,
natural
sciences,
and
orthopedics.
To
be
accepted
at
a
Chinese
Medical
College,
you
are
required
to
have
a
college
degree.
The
training
to
receive
a
Masters
degree
in
Traditional
Chinese
medicine
takes
about
3-4
years
of
studying,
which
includes
one
year
of
assistantship
and
one
year
of
internship
at
the
colleges
acupuncture
clinic.
Recently
doctoral
programs
have
also
been
started
at
most
acupuncture
colleges
in
California.
In
the
State
of
California
you
have
to
be
licensed
to
practice
acupuncture,
which
requires
that
you
pass
the
State
Board
Examinations.
After
passing
these
stringent
exams,
you
may
call
yourself
a
licensed
acupuncturist – or
L.Ac.
and
begin
private
practice!
